Here at The Other Tales when we are not running escape games, or not playing or building them, we enjoy playing escape room board games and card games, story based puzzle books, board games, and much much more. Our team is always on a lookout for a new fun product to try. We are happy to share some of our great finds with you.
It's that time of year when everyone is looking for a cool and unusual gift. In fact, many of us are searching for many such gifts. So we came up with a short list, a sort of a gift guide, that we hope will be helpful to many when shopping for gifts this year. This list has some new products just released in 2019, but we couldn’t leave off some of our old time favorites for the new fans of the escape games genre.

Deckscape - The Fate of London - $14.90 at Barnes & Noble
Deckscape has been releasing card-based escape games for a while. We love how a deck of cards cleverly transforms into puzzles and story. The Mystery of Eldorado is their newest game. Our favorite is The Fate of London.
Codex Enigmatum - $14.54 on Amazon
If you have a fan of puzzles in your family, that’s a perfect gift. Intriguing images, fun puzzles. Easy to check if you got the correct answer, no computer needed. Fun to solve with a small group of friends or alone.
Dubious Documents - $12.21 on Amazon
A beautifully illustrated book of puzzles. A new work by Nick Bantock. The puzzles are a bit on the easy side, but the book, a collection of envelopes and notes, is exquisitely done and a pleasure to examine long after you solved the puzzle.
Detective: A modern crime board game - $33.50 on Amazon
For those who love a good mystery and are ready to try and solve a modern crime using modern methods this game will hit just the right spot. This is not a light game - a session can last for several hours, but during this time you and your team will use all available information, including online searches, to solve the mystery. Five cases provide a solid amount of content, and will keep you occupied for many nights.
7 ½ deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton - $15.29 at Barnes & Noble
A mystery of puzzling proportions. Some describe it as Agatha Christie meets Groundhog Day. At first glance the book is set up as a classical mystery story, and as one starts reading, the book almost turns into a game. Very unusual and fascinating read.
Wingspan - $60 at Stonemaier Games
Just released this year, the game immediately got into top 50 games on BoardGameGeek.com (out of more than 100,000!) The game has a deep strategy, beautiful components - including colored wooden eggs! - and will be a great gift for a board game lover.
Gift vouchers to escape room - $39.95 per ticket at The Other Tales Escape Rooms.

Amazing Adventure Society is about adventuring in the early 1900’s and The Anomaly is perfect for anyone who loves science fiction. Escape Room tickets are also a perfect last minute gift. You can buy online, personalize them, and print at home.
ROKR Vitascope - 3D Wooden Puzzle - $49.99 on Amazon
We love 3D Wooden Puzzles. Each year we are waiting for some new cool one to appear. This year ROKR’s Vitascope completely blew us away. Once completed, it’s a real working movie projector! What an awesome gift idea. This is a challenging puzzle, and will take at least 5 hours and lots of patience. But the result is well worth it. If you’ve never done a wooden 3D puzzle, we would recommend starting with and easier project.
Century: Spice Road - $27.95 on Amazon
Century: Spice Road is the first game in the Century series of games. This deck building board game has amazing artwork and is very elegantly designed. The rules are very easy to understand and the depth of the game opens up more and more with each play through. Fun for both kids and adults.
